Filtering Search Results with Google

Welcome to another installment of Google Search Tips! These tips have been shared with our 5/6 skills classes, and we want to make sure everyone knows about them, too!

First, if you haven't consider taking a few minutes when you're completing your next Google search to click on "search tools." You can find that button on the right side of your main Google search screen:

You'll see options for pulling results from the last hour, 24 hours, week, etc. Or you can add a custom date range under the option "any time." This is helpful if news has happened during a certain time frame, or recently.

Under "all results" click on "reading level."

You'll see filtered lists by basic, intermediate, and advanced. Click on each word to filter by that reading level - this is a great way to ensure information is not too complicated for your child's purposes.

You can also click on location to enter any U.S. city. This may be helpful to ensure you're getting local results from your chosen location.

The "news" option features similar search tools, including one to filter by new or blog posts:

In our next posting, we'll tackle filtering options for images!

Thank you!
